“The illiterate of the 21st Century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.”

PASTI or PERSONAL ADVANCEMENT SKILLS TRAINING INITIATIVE provides seven core skills needed to enhance the competitiveness of organisations and employability of the workforce. The PASTI initiative is a strategic response to the establishment of a knowledge-based economy.
To stay ahead, organisations need to innovate strategies, products and processes continuously; and enable employees to rapidly learn and apply new technology at the workplace. This means that the skilling strategy which primarily focuses on technical content has to change. The workforce must first of all be provided with a sound foundation in the critical skills that will enable them to rapidly adapt to change, and constantly learn, think and apply new knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of the knowledge economy.
The seven essential skills are:
- Learning-to-Learn
- Literacy
- Listening & Oral Communication
- Problem-solving & Creativity
- Personal Effectiveness
- Group Effectiveness
- Organisational Effectiveness

The programme places heavy emphasis on experiential learning. Learning methods include case studies, diagnostic instruments and questionnaires, role-plays, skill practice, games, discussions and short lectures.

This programme is designed for people with SPM and STPM ‘AO’ levels and below.
