In today’s rapidly advancing technology, many manual jobs which require basic skills in reading, writing and computing can now be done by machines. Increasingly, the workplace demands the worker to be able to think creatively; analyse, conceptualise, synthesise and assimilate information; solve complex work issues; and develop initiatives and strategies that respond quickly to changes. In a knowledge-based economy, where new information and technology is generated by the day, individuals can only learn quickly and effectively if they continually upgrade their literacy levels.

The objectives of the programme are to enable participants to:
- improve job-related reading, writing and computation skills;
- improve overall job performance;
- enhance changes of job stability and upward job mobility through improved reading, writing and computation skills; and
- increase company productivity through improving individual reading, writing and computational abilities.
