Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Strathclyde Business School has been offering postgraduate programmes at international centres since 1988. We have offered an MBA programme in Malaysia since 1988 and Malaysia is one of our eight international centres around the world.

Our MBA programme is designed for busy executives who need to combine career and family commitments with the demands of MBA studies. Wherever you study, our MBA programme has the same content and structure and our faculty members travel to our international centres to run intensive seminars, with continuous support for our students provided by our centre administrators. [In-country teaching by Strathclyde faculty is subject to prevailing Covid-19 guidelines.] Students have the opportunity to take electives in summer school classes in Glasgow, subject to availability.

Strathclyde Business School is triple accredited by the three international accrediting bodies, AMBA, EQUIS and AACSB. AMBA specifically accredits MBA programmes. All our teaching is supported by the strong research carried out by our faculty. The Research Excellence Framework (REF) in 2014 rated Strathclyde Business School in the top 10 schools in the UK for the quality and breadth of its research and was also rated highly for research impact, a measure of how the research impacts practice in business.

CDC Management Development (M) Sdn Bhd

Founded in 1999 by a group of experienced management professionals, CDC Management Development is a trusted education provider located in the Klang Valley. With our “can do” attitude and ability to get things done, you will be assured of an authentic experience in your pursuit of knowledge.

We are a private institution in Malaysia that provides various education programmes  locally such as:

  • International MBA from University of Strathclyde, United Kingdom;
  • MSc Risk Management from Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), United Kingdom;
  • Purchasing & Supply programmes from the Royal Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS); and
  • Management Accounting programmes from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)

We also represent the University of Strathclyde and the University of Stirling for the recruitment of students in Malaysia for all their full-time undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Scotland, United Kingdom.

Since Strathclyde MBA was available locally on a part-time basis from 1989, more than 1000 students have graduated. Currently, we have about 250 MBA students at the various stages of their Strathclyde MBA programme. We were the first and only International Centre to start an in-house Strathclyde MBA programme for a national organization in 2008.

Dr. Ron Bradfield

Associate Senior Consultant

A lecturer in management, Ron joined the former Strathclyde Graduate Business School in 1991, and has taught on the UK and International MBA programmes in Asia, the Gulf and Europe, and IDGS programmes in Thailand and Hong Kong. He has also held concurrent visiting academic positions at institutions in Poland, Switzerland and Singapore. Resident in Abu Dhabi since 2005, he is responsible for the operations and development of the Business School’s campuses in the United Arab Emirates, which in addition to the MBA, offer an expanding range of postgraduate degree courses. Alongside the UAE, Ron also has responsibility for the International MBA centres in Oman, and Bahrain. Before moving to the UAE, he spent 6 years in Singapore and 3 years in Shanghai managing the International MBA centres in Asia.

Ron’s research interest focuses on institutional learning and sense-making processes in organisations for explicating and accommodating contextual uncertainty and ambiguity in strategic planning. In particular, he is interested in scenario thinking and associated future studies techniques, and the process issues and cognitive barriers which affect sense making and impede individual and group learning in these techniques. Alongside his academic activities, Ron has broad consulting experience, having designed and led numerous scenario and strategy projects with national and regional governments, non-governmental organisations, and a range of multinational and medium-sized companies in over fifteen countries, in a variety of industry sectors ranging from Airports & Airlines to Pharmaceuticals and Railways.  

A founding member of the Centre for Scenario Planning & Future Studies at Strathclyde Business School, Ron is a member of the World Futures Society and Futurists Network, and a co-author of the book “The Sixth Sense: Accelerating Organisational Learning with Scenarios”, published by Wiley in 2002. He has served on the Boards of several companies and has been an invited speaker/panelist at various senior management conferences, including the Economist CFO Roundtable, Asia Network and CEO Asia Roundtable conferences. 

Prior to joining Strathclyde Ron qualified as an accountant and spent 18 years working in senior positions in large multinationals in the Oil & Gas, Mining and Publishing industries in Canada, the US and the UK.

Dr. George Koshy

Director & Senior Consultant

Dr.George Koshy has been actively involved in the field of human resource management since January 1965. He started his career with the Ministry of Education for a short stint and then in the private sector where he dealt with the full range of human resource functions at the operational as well as the corporate level.

He holds a Bachelor of Economics Degree from the University of Malaya (1965) as well as an MBA from the same University. In 1969 Dr. Koshy was awarded a German government scholarship to pursue a post- graduate Diploma in Industrial Management in West Germany. He also obtained the Train the Trainers Certificate issued jointly by the Ministry of Labor and the International Labor Organization (ILO). In early 2004 he successfully completed the Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from USA.

He held the position of Training Officer at the National Productivity Corporation for five years and later joined Pernas Charter Management Sdn Bhd (the largest mining Management Company) to establish and head their Personnel department. In 1980, he assumed the position of Group Human Resource & Public Relations Manager with Associated Pan Malaysia Group of Companies, a post he held until his retirement in 1998.

Dr. Koshy has been actively involved with various institutions dealing with HR issues and as an acknowledged specialist in HR matters, he has presented Papers at conferences in Malaysia and Asean countries. In 1998, he was invited to write a series of articles for the STAR newspaper on various aspects of retrenchment.

He is currently a Director of two companies dealing with education, consulting and human capital development. He also provides various programs in human resource management and soft skills at MIM, MIHRM, MITD and INTAN and other training Institutions. In March 2002 he was given the Resource Person Service Award in recognition of his services to MIM. He has been an active member of the Rotary Club of Petaling Jaya for thirty years (1976 – 2006).

He is currently a part time lecturer at a number of MBA programs as well as a Project Supervisor at the University of Strathclyde Business School.

Ibrahim Hassan

Director & Senior Consultant

He graduated in Economics from University of Malaya and did his Masters degree in Management (majoring in HRD) at the George Washington University. He also pursued Postgraduate studies in the field of Adult learning at the same University in 1987 he acquired a Certificate In Management Consulting from University of Pittsburgh.

He is certified and accredited by consulting organizations such as Hay McBer, ADT, Philip Crosby Associate, USA and William Bridges Inc. USA, to teach a number of Courses in the areas of Leadership Development, Management Development, Change and Transition Management and Quality Management / Quality Education. He is a certified Performance Coach, Open University Malaysia (OUM).

Design and deliver HRD/ OD programmes in the fields of Competency – based leadership and management development using psychological survey instruments, e.g. Hay Mc Ber /MBTI and Five Factor Leadership tools, Building and Using Scenario.

Deliver OD and leadership course in the areas of Leading Individual and Organizational Change and Transition, Psychological Types and Leadership Development, Leadership Through Quality, Creating Value through personal Leadership.

Undertake consulting projects / assignments in the fields of designing and implanting HRM / HRD systems, Manpower Productivity / Effectiveness in Procurement projects.

Designing and installing for organizations Quality Management system, Scenario Planning system / projects, Competency – based HRD system and performance Management System.

Director of CDC Management Development (M) Sdn .Bhd, Malaysia’s representative of the University Of Strathclyde, Graduate Business School MBA programmes. He is also an Executive Director, Meteor Learning Sdn Bhd .

Has served the National Productivity Corporation and PETRONAS and METEOR Sdn. Bhd, Centre for Creative Leadership for more than for more than 30 years in various managerial and general management capacities covering area such as Human Resource Management and Competence Development, Planning and Corporate Development, Quality Management Scenario Development and Leadership Development.

He has also led management consulting and implemented projects in the area of organization development, HRM processes, quality management, scenario development and human capital productivity. Working as a team – leader collaborating reputable consulting firms such as McKinsey, AD Little and Philip Crosby Associates, USA. To develop and implement the consulting initiatives.

Soon Thiam Lam

Director & Senior Consultant

Soon Thiam Lam is currently the Director / Senior Consultant of CDC Consulting Sdn Bhd, which he established with Oti-SDC Consulting.

He is a Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours) graduate, majoring in Polymer Science and Technology from the Universiti Sains Malaysia. Soon’s career moves since joining Shell in 1981, have taken him through various disciplines within the company: as Sales/Business Development Manager (Shell Chemicals), Compensation & Services Manager (Shell Malaysia), HR Adviser and Learning Consultant (Shell Malaysia), giving him valuable multidisciplinary exposure.

Soon has more than 30 years of experience in marketing, business development and sales as well as the HR areas of compensation and benefits, consultancy and learning. He has designed, developed and conducted various training initiatives in the areas of management, talent development, mentoring, marketing, negotiating, staff appraisal and retirement planning.soonHe brings a wealth of experience from his various positions and business activities in Shell Malaysia and training assignments for the Shell East and Australasia Region. He was also instrumental to the completion and implementation of the Job Competency Profiling System for Shell.

Soon has been a resource person at several seminars and he will be able to share his wealth of experiences whilst facilitating the various training programmes. He has trained and consulted for organizations and multinational companies such as Khazanah, Shell Group of Companies, UEM, KLSE, Nestle, Petronas, Schneider Group of Companies in Malaysia, Thailand & Indonesia, Television Corporation of Singapore, Singapore National Semiconductor, Monetary Authority of Singapore, Western Digital, Wincor Nixdorf, Star Publication, Sony Technology Malaysia, Titan, Golden Hope, Konsortium Logistik, Emerson Process Management Manufacturing, OCBC, RHB, Hong Leong, Philips Semiconductors, Guthrie, Gamuda, Pacific Insurance, Sime Darby, Telekom Malaysia, Celcom, Nippon Express, Cognis Oleochemicals, Toshiba Electronics Malaysia, Canon Marketing, Infineon, etc.

He is also the CEO of CDC Management Development, the International Partner of University of Strathclyde which runs the Strathclyde International MBA in Malaysia. He is a Certified Professional Trainer with Malaysian Institute of Management and a Certified Performance Coach from Open University Malaysia.

At the community front, Soon was a Director with World Vision Malaysia.
